A convicted predator, who was on bail for robbery, attempted to abduct a 12 year old little girl on the side of a country road.
She was playing with her two brothers near their home near the village of Cullahill in Laois when the man stopped and asked for directions.
He then jumped from the stolen vehicle and grabbed the girl.
That’s when her heroic younger brother lunged through the driver’s window at the would-be kidnapper punching him as the jeep began to drive away.
The brave boy distracted the driver long enough so that his sister could jump from the moving vehicle.
The 10-year-old boy is now being hailed a hero after saving his 12-year-old sister from abduction.
The Herald reported that the incident happened after the criminal stole a 2004 registered Nissan 4×4 jeep in Kilkenny on Tuesday evening before making his way to he midlands on Wednesday morning.
At Durrow, Co Laois, he begged for cash from a priest before making his way to the Culahill area at 11am.
Here he encountered three siblings – two boys and their sister – and tried to lure them into his stolen van. When they refused to get into the vehicle, he got out, picked up the 12-year-old girl and put her into a back seat in the stolen Nissan and attempted to take off.
As he did so, the girl’s younger brother jumped on the driver’s window and started roaring and punching the abductor to save his sister.
“He was roaring and punching and making as much noise as possible,” a source said.
The 34-year-old criminal was distracted and the girl managed to open the door and jump clear of the moving jeep.
Her brother also escaped unharmed. The children ran home to their father while the criminal left the area.
