Shocking Armed Robbery caught on Helmet Cam

gun laws

Everything at first appears calm in the YouTube video posted this week as Alex Hennessy, a Canadian tourist, enjoys a leisurely cruise on a bicycle in Buenos Aires.

But out of nowhere, a criminal suddenly rides into view on his Honda motorcycle and pulls a pistol on Hennessy, demanding in Spanish that he hand over his backpack.

It’s shocking that someone would try to rob someone with a gun in broad daylight. Liberals would demand stricter gun control laws, but lets take a look at some of the gun laws in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Firearm Regulation – Guiding Policy

The regulation of guns in Argentina is categorized as restrictive.

Right to Possess Firearms

The right to private gun ownership is not guaranteed by law.

Genuine Reason Required for Firearm Possession

Applicants for a gun owner’s licence in Argentina are required to prove genuine reason to possess a firearm, for example, hunting, target shooting, collection, personal protection

Gun Licence Background Checks

An applicant for a firearm licence in Argentina must pass a background check which considers criminal and mental records.

Civilian Gun Registration

In Argentina, the law requires that a record of the acquisition, possession and transfer of each privately held firearm be retained in an official register.
The video eventually was handed over to the police and the robber was arrested later that day, according to an online post.
