Administrators at Carondelet High School were questioned after announcing that they would celebrate Black History Month by having a special lunch of fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon.
A group of students at the Concord school who were brainstorming ways to honor black culture suggested the idea. Yet despite the well-intentions of the students they ended up receiving a backlash of criticism.
On St. Patrick’s Day some places offer corned beef, cabbage and beer to people, yet the Irish have yet to raise a huge concern or get upset. Even is the instances when people use it it disparage the Irish. Also, at Asian-related events, people are quick to serve rice and sushi with chop sticks and fortune cookies.
