Alton Nolen, a member of an extremist mosque, murdered Colleen Hufford at the Vaughan Food Distribution by stabbing her repeatedly, then chopping her head off at a processing plant in Oklahoma.
Police originally said that Nolen entered a Vaughan Foods processing plant on Thursday afternoon shortly after being “terminated.” But in an affidavit released Tuesday, police said Nolen had actually been suspended just before the incident.
He then went home and grabbed “a large bladed knife.” At that point, according to Cleveland County Prosecutor Greg Mashburn, Nolen “returned to get revenge.”
In the plant’s administrative office, police say, Nolen attacked 54-year-old Colleen Hufford from behind and severed her head from her body.
Nolen then attacked 43-year-old Traci Johnson, another employee, before he was stopped by the company’s chief operating officer, Mark Vaughan.
Witnesses say Nolen was yelling Islamic phrases during the attack.
In response to the gruesome event Obama responded by flying an official from Washington D.C. to Oklahoma to present a special thank you to the Muslim congregation in which Alton Nolen had been a part of.
The official read a message from Obama, extending warm greetings from the American people during the Muslim holiday.
“Your service is a powerful example of the powerful roots of the Abrahamic faiths and how our communities can come together with shared peace with dignity and a sense of justice,” Obama said.
Due to the manner of death, the initial statements of co-workers, and other initial information, the Moore Police Department requested the assistance of the FBI in conducting a background investigation on Nolan.
