A billboard on the east side of Indianapolis is catching the eyes of drivers, and causing an uproar within local Muslim groups.
The sign can be seen from the southbound lanes of I-465 near the Washington Street exit.
The sign is titled The Perfect Man and below it is listed just a few facts out of the quran about the Muslim prophet Muhammad.
The facts listed are:
- Married a 6 year old
- Beheaded 600 Jews in one day
- Slave owner and dealer
- had 13 wives, 11 at one time
- Tortured and killed unbelievers
While most people would obviously recognize that this is not the perfect man, the truth is that this is who the Prophet Muhommad was. But not only that, it is what is taught in the quran.
The opponents of the billboard say it degrades the Muslim prophet Muhammad.
“I was a little disappointed when I saw that,” said Farial Khatri of the Islamic Society of North America.
Opponents say the billboard’s bullet points are meant to disparage the Muslim faith and its primary prophet, Muhammad.
“We’ve seen them in New York and several others cities on billboards as well as other transit ads,” said Kahtri.
There’s no company name or identifying group on the display other than“Truthophobes”. Which ironically made several members from the local musim community outraged by the simple truth posted below an Islamic opinion of Muhommad being the perfect man.
“We do support free speech, but we do realize this is also rooted in bigotry,” said Kahtri.
Other groups say they want to do more than just speak out against the display. The Muslim Alliance of Indiana says it’s planning to raise money to put up its own billboard nearby to spread a message of peace and kindness. A message that is not commonly found in the quran.
