A West Virginia mother is accused of deliberately making her 9-year-old son sick by injecting feces into his intravenous line at a Cincinnati hospital.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters says 35-year-old Candida Fluty, of Kermit, West Virginia, was indicted Tuesday in Cincinnati on charges of felonious assault and child endangering.
According to WCPO, Cincinnati police arrested Fluty at Children’s Hospital Medical Center on January 17th after she “knowingly injected a substance into the victim’s peripheral IV line” in his hospital room the day before.
The mothers Facebook post dated Friday, January 16th. The text reads:
“It never gets easier!!! He made me cry today as well as a few others in the OR. As he was drifting asleep with the mask on his little face, he said I love you Mama, I don’t know what I’d do without you!!! My heart melted. He has that effect on me. Surgery should be about 3 hours!!”
The mother was caught after the hospital taped her filling a syringe with the fecal material from a colonoscopy bag and injecting it into the IV, the prosecutor said.
“She was getting money from people on Facebook from people trying to help the child,” Deters said. “She was getting a lot of attention for this. They (hospital staff) have every right to put cameras in their room for security purposes, and they caught her.”
Fluty was arraigned Monday, Jan. 19. Hamilton County Municipal Judge Cheryl Grant set a $50,000 bond and ordered the mother to stay away from her son. At the time testing on the substance injected into the IV had not been complete.
