Jose Garcia of Charlotte North Carolina was arrested for trying to abduct a 6-year-old girl at Lake Mist Apartments this past Saturday afternoon.
The complex is just off South Boulevard near Archdale Drive.
According to WSOCTV, Jose Garcia, 41, is in the United States illegally.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Garcia grabbed the girl by her arm and forced her through a window into a vacant apartment.
A neighbor saw it, and called police.
“That’s crazy. Why would somebody do that? I have a 10-year-old cousin, anybody could take her,” Christian Elorza, who lives at the complex, said.
NBC news reported that Garcia grabbed the girl by the arm, opened a window to a vacant apartment and forced her through a window against her will.
The mother of the 6-year-old called the abduction “very scary,” and said that her daughter was able to escape and return home to her mother.
Thankfully the girl was not injured.
The girls mother called 911, and they arrested Garcia in the area shortly afterward.
“It’s very scary situation,” neighbor Tasia Jacobs said. “I have a small child myself.”
“Thank God we keep our doors locked and we are always aware of our surroundings and stuff like that because you never know.” said neighbor Marko Pepin.
“Makes me nervous because I have a 2-year-old son. To have something like that go on in your house, especially here… It’s really quiet. To find that out kind of makes me nervous.”
Garcia is also charged with breaking and entering and burglary, in addition to the abduction of a child and kidnapping charges.
He is expected to face a judge for the first thing Tuesday morning.
