While attending a Brooklyn Nets basketball game Rapper Jay-Z caused a commotion when he was seen wearing a large medallion representing the racist Five Percent Nation.
The Five Percent Nation is a sect, an offshoot of the Nation of Islam, in which they claim to be gods, and that all white people are “weak and wicked.” They also claim that white people are the devil, and inferior to black men. It also claims that the Christian God is a ghost and that 5 percent of humanity are “poor righteous teachers” (a.k.a. gods) trying to enlighten the rest of the world about the “truth” of existence.
Jay-Z was also seen wearing the medallion last summer while promoting his new album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” Him wearing the medallion displeased followers of Five Percent Nation because they felt he wasn’t fully following their ways.
The author Michael Muhammed Knight said the sect has a very distinct belief in God.
“The rationale is that the black man is God and created the universe, and is physically stronger and intellectually stronger and more righteous naturally,” Knight told the Post. “The idea is empowering.”
The coaster-sized medallion is an eight-pointed star with the number seven in the middle and it symbolizes the sect’s alphabet, with seven representing God.
