A mouse has triggered a panic causing a stampede in an islamic mosque in the Moroccan city of Casablanca which left more than 80 people injured.
The incident occurred in the city’s Hassan II Speisa news reported. The mosque was packed during evening prayers on Tuesday, the holiest night of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
‘Eighty-one people, mostly women, suffered light injuries and fractures while some of them fainted,’ it said.
Officials said that the injured were mostly women who suffered light injuries and fractures.
BBC news reported that a worshipper fainted after a mouse crossed over a woman’s foot while she was praying, causing her to rush outside and creating panic among other worshippers.
The Hassan II mosque is believed to be the largest in Africa and the seventh largest in the world.
